After two years of sipping gin and tonics on our comfy couches in fluffy robes, brides and grooms around Australia are ready to shake off the pandemic cobwebs and remind us why we all LOVE a damn good wedding. Get ready lovers, for some of the most epic wedding trends coming your way in 2022/2023.
Smoking hot photo opps
A seriously smokin' way to create an incredible backdrop for your wedding portraits and to create enchanting movement through your videography; smoke bombs are a trend we are totally here for! Smoke bombs create an unforgettable, dreamy backdrop and adds a layer of unexpected surprise to your special day.
Think bold, bright hues to make a statement while capturing that special kiss moment or you could opt for a more subtle smoke bomb action to create a romantic moody vibe to your images. You can create so many feels just through your selection of smoke colour, making it so versatile and oh-so dreamy.
Anni-ceptions
“Guys”, we hear you saying, “what on earth is an anni-ception?”
Excellent question! 2020 and 2021 certainly shifted how couples were able to celebrate their weddings, with many opting for smaller ceremonies and pressing pause on their bigger celebrations. An Anni-ception is simply an excuse for couples to throw the big party Covid stole from them on the anniversary of their wedding date (or any date really).
With Covid restrictions beginning to ease here in Australia, our gorgeous lockdown couples are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and they’re ready to celebrate! An Anni-ception gives you the chance to recreate the wedding reception you should have had pre-pandemic without the need for the ceremony beforehand. You get it all; the styling, the cake, the dress, the speeches, the first dance… surrounded by all your friends and family. We love, love, LOVE this trend!
Grandparents in your bridal party
Seriously, this one is an absolute fave for us. Could you imagine anything cuter, sweeter, or more precious than having your grandmother standing with you as one of your bridesmaids? Or an extremely proud grandfather standing next to your groom, beaming with happiness at being chosen to be such a big part of your day?
This is exactly what one of our Little Lane couples, Desiree and Davis, did for their wedding, with Desiree’s beaming Nona standing with her during the ceremony. Look at the amazing memory this has created for them! We are all jealous we hadn’t thought of it for our own weddings!
Decreased cakes increased champagne
For a wow factor, couples are starting to catch on to the fact that huge wedding cakes, while cool to look at, maybe aren’t that practical! We are seeing a fab trend towards, smaller, more personal wedding cakes with memory-inducing flavours, possibly from your first date or even florals cut from Poppy’s garden when you were young. These are being paired with epic WOW factors!
Picture this. You’ve just cut your divine wedding cake, your guests are cheering and preparing to toast to you, when out rolls the most epic champagne tower! What better way to savour your toast than with an amazing spectacle that is sure to impress all your guests!
Destination-inspired themes
It’s fair to say that destination weddings might not be making a comeback for just a little while longer, but… who cares! If you can’t make it to Italy, why not bring Italy to you!
A trend we’re seeing more of is couples choosing to recreate the look and feel of their dream destinations, right here in Australia. Be creative with your styling, food and music and add your own personal touches, allowing you to experience the destination wedding you were hoping for in your own backyard. Another bonus? All the friends and family who may not have been able to make a destination wedding will certainly be able to experience Italy in Australia with you!
A focus on sustainability
Sustainable, eco friendly weddings are totally our jam and a trend that has growing over the last couple of years, and we expect this to continue for the brides and grooms of 2022. What does an eco wedding look like? It’s only limited by your imagination!
Instead of the heartbreak of leaving your ceremony florals as soon as you’ve said your ‘I do’s’, why not reuse them at your reception? Or consider a gift-wrapping station at the end of the night so your guests can enjoy your florals for days (and weeks) to come.
Consider party favours that WILL be appreciated and not just left on the table, such as cute mini tequila bottles to cheers with at the end of the groom’s speech! The photo of that? Seriously, NEXT LEVEL.
Bring the fun to your ceremony
Change up the traditional ceremony experience and get your guests pumped for your epic reception by cutting your cake after the ceremony and let everyone enjoy it with a divine champagne bar! Or, have your entire wedding party take a shot with with you once you’re married and surprise them all with an epic (biodegradable, of course) confetti cannon! You could even pick two of your guest’s names out of a hat and have them sign your registry for you.
Inject some colour!
Bright, fresh, and colourful! We see lovers in 2022 shying away from traditional whites and creams and injecting their stunning celebrations with fresh, nature-inspired colour and patterns. Why not get creative with different patterns and fabrics for table settings, tablecloths or napkins? Or create an epic centrepiece using a combination of fresh and dried flowers?

We’ve got to say, we are SERIOUSLY loving the increase in non-traditional bridal wear, with more and more brides seeking out something different for their big day. We love, love, love the bridal separates trend. They are super popular because of their versatility, they can easily be taken from day to night and, for our sustainable brides, the ability to wear them again is a win-win!
Why not try an elegant top and trousers combo or go for the whimsical look with a beautifully coordinating skirt set? The options are utterly endless! Don’t love the separates look? Why not strut your stuff in a sexy mini dress or class it up with a midi length dress? For those shoe-loving brides, the mini dress trend is a chic way to show off your fabulous taste in footwear!
Microweddings are here to stay!
Yes, we are out of lockdown and the age of the big, celebratory wedding is once again around the corner (we can almost touch it!), but Covid has shown couples a new way and we don’t think microweddings will be going anywhere anytime soon.
We are huge fans of an intimate weddings, as we see it as an opportunity to invest more into the elements of your day that are most important to you! A smaller wedding also means creating a guest list filled with friends and family who truly know and love both of you, a guaranteed way to make your special day more personal, emotional, and memorable.
